The Workshop

An editor we wished we had. Patient, skeptical, and built to keep the book the author meant to write.

Every AI fiction tool on the market generates before it calibrates. They produce competent prose with no voice, no continuity, and no soul, and they ask the author to chat their way to a novel — a process that drifts within a chapter and dies within three.

The Workshop inverts the order. Voice is locked first. World is built second. Plot and beats are scaffolded third. Generation is the last act, not the first, and it runs against a living story bible the author has already authored. The bible is the source of truth; the AI is a consumer of it.

At every stage, the AI pushes back. Not flattery, not auto-complete — questions. Which theme is doing the most work? Whose function in the cast overlaps? What would this character refuse, even if refusing breaks the story? The author leaves each stage with a harder, stranger, more specific answer than they walked in with.

The Nine Stages

Each stage produces durable artifacts the next stage consumes.

  1. I.PremiseGenre, theme, tone, the question the book is asking.
  2. II.CastWho walks this road, and why.
  3. III.ArcsPlot pressure and the slow shape of growth.
  4. IV.VoiceCalibrated against the author's own corpus — before a page is drafted.
  5. V.WorldHistory, geography, religion, factions, lexicon.
  6. VI.ChaptersThe outline, chapter by chapter.
  7. VII.BeatsWhat each chapter must hit.
  8. VIII.GenerationLocked until voice has passed the blind test.
  9. IX.EditorialDevelopmental, line, and copy passes — distinct and reversible.

Principles

The Workshop is in private development through 2026. Word will be sent when there is something worth showing.
